Intermediate District 287 is looking for Custodial Workers at various locations in our district!

 

 

Position Details:

  • Monday - Friday, 6 hours per day

Salary & Benefits:

  • Pay Rate: $19.49 - $20.76 per hour

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent with two years of custodial experience and a demonstrated ability to assume responsibility for a clean and orderly building in compliance with standards and regulations. 
  • Physical Requirement: Employees appointed to positions in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties of the class.
  • A pre-employment physical examination is required.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to assume responsibility for a clean and orderly building in compliance with standards and regulations;
  • Ability to organize the daily routine, organize periodic cleaning and follow-up functions of the position and work area;
  • Considerable knowledge of methods, tools, equipment, materials and procedures of specific trade or work area concerned;
  • Basic knowledge of related legal requirements, including OSHA;
  • Some knowledge of maintenance problems and their proper handling;
  • Skilled in manual and machine operations of trade or work area;
  • Ability to operate basic office equipment, e.g., computer terminals, printers, copy machines, telephone systems, as well as the ability to access, operate and maintain various software applications;
  • Ability to understand the concepts of District 287 educational operations;
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions;
  • Ability to read, update and maintain various records and files;
  • Ability to work with a variety of people and to work cooperatively with district staff and students in a team work environment;
  • Prior experience working with a culturally diverse population and the ability to navigate intercultural issues with sensitivity and awareness and with a high level of cultural proficiency.

Essential Functions:

 

The following identifies the primary and essential functions of the position and is not intended to be an exhaustive listing of all duties. 

  • Cleans and maintains an assigned area and help with cleaning other areas when staff is short handed, oversees all District Facilities for safe and efficient environment;
  • Prioritizes work requests and work orders, plans and carries out work schedule to insure a timely, efficient response to request;
  • Work with the building principal or designee to ensure insure proper set-up, clean up and support for activities, community and non-school use of facilities;
  • Responsible for the inventory, receiving, organizing, maintaining, and distributing of  custodial supplies and equipment;
  • May travel daily to various school sites to support District-owned school communities;
  • Familiarity with building security and ensures alarm system is set and in working order;
  • Supplies motor vehicles with gas, oil, water and other fluids;
  • Uses District technology to perform daily, weekly and monthly job duties as required, utilize the district’s MMS (Maintenance Management Software) to manage maintenance requirements, complete inspections and fill out electronic forms as appropriate;
  • May be required to use District owned technology for off-site monitoring of building systems. This excludes any communication device for which the employee is receiving payment from the District;
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with all building occupants including staff, students, visiting teams and the public in the use of the facility;
  • Responsible for addressing and responding to customer concerns, whether received electronically or otherwise, in a manner that is consistent with industry standards, District email guidelines, and operating procedures;
